Aims of Our Program
Aim 1: To develop and facilitate a network of community partners through a clearly articulated mission and vision focused on urban health.
1a. To articulate and define a shared identity as urban health and aging researchers to be used as a catalyst for
collaboration in the future.
1b. To form and facilitate a network of urban health and aging-focused community partners (researchers and
practitioners) at Wayne State University and in Southeast Michigan.
Aim 2: To seek research funding to support and enhance gerontological research from government and foundation sources.
2a. To enhance our knowledge and competencies related to grant opportunities and grant writing strategies.
2b. To successfully complete at least two grant applications (one foundation grant and one federal grant) through a
collaborative effort involving members of our affinity group.
Aim 3: To improve and encourage student participation in gerontology learning opportunities at the BSW, MSW, and PhD levels, with a particular focus on promoting educational experiences around urban health and aging. Through their gerontology education at Wayne State University, we expect graduates will be better prepared to serve disadvantaged elders in urban areas.
